In summer

I spent the day digging trenches for sewer pipes, which feels good if you don’t overdo it and you don’t have to worry about whether your literary essays are ‘legitimated.’ Andy has praise for Sock Puppet Serenade, which would also be a good name for the Silliman’s Blog comments fields.

It's Ian's trademark dry wit. Though, Ian, I think you missed an opportunity, given the mention of sewer pipes, to refer to the "comments stream."

I haven't had a chance to read through said stream, but a brief skim implies that what started off as an interesting discussion of a writer's work has, as so often, dissolved and been washed away into less productive rivulets.
